here’s a picture of the Mario + Boo tattoo i got today (12/21/11) first in the plastic wrap and then finally unwrapped (still swollen though). i got it at Guru Tattoo in San Jose, CA from Josh.
the meaning behind this tattoo: i’ve been dealing with some severe codependency/bipolar disorder/crippling depression/emotional rollercoaster events that only appear every time my relationship goes back to being long-distance. for the past two months i’ve been going to CoDA meetings to begin my recovery, and someone i befriended at those meetings suggested that i read a book called “The Power Of Now” - i read the first two chapters and it changed my life. the author mentions a section of one’s ego called the “pain body,” which essentially is a collection of your subconscious emotions that ultimately try to take over if you don’t look out for it. the author said that these negative emotions…this “pain body”…can’t hurt you if you are aware of its presence, and it instantly got me thinking of Boo from Super Mario. so i got it tattooed on my inner wrist to serve as a constant reminder to pay closer attention to what i actually feel rather than trying to push it aside/bottle it up and pretend it doesn’t exist (because thus far, that has only resulted in hurting myself, my friends, and my boyfriend). i’m really happy with this tattoo. :) it gives me a lot of hope with my recovery. plus it just makes me smile everytime i look at it. <3
